Starting with the Initially Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Cathedral established a practice of ecumenical Council meetings to help determine and shape the future of the Church. The most recent Council, referred to as Vatican II, is considered to be the largest ever in scope and also the the majority of ground breaking in the amount of change it produced. In January 25th 1959, Pere John XXIII announced that having been assembling that which was to be the twenty first ecumenical authorities of the Roman Catholic Church. He announced to his closest advisors that the aim of the council would be " to proclaim the truth, provide Christians nearer to the beliefs, and contribute at the same time to peace and prosperity on earth.
